Editorial and data methods
How we find, check, and date every price
Every number on SpreeHealth comes from a named public source and shows the date we pulled it. Here is how that works.
Where the numbers come from
- Drug costs: the CMS NADAC weekly file (what pharmacies pay), and the Cost Plus Drugs public pricing API for a cash price you can pay today.
- Drug label basics: FDA labels via openFDA, linked to the full label on DailyMed.
- Labs, tests, and scans: hospital price transparency files posted by each hospital, plus the Medicare Clinical Laboratory and Physician Fee Schedules as a fair price benchmark.
- Related medicines: grouped by FDA established pharmacologic class where the label lists one.
The full list is on our Sources page.
How often we update
Automated pipelines check for new NADAC and Cost Plus data every week. Hospital files are re-checked as hospitals post them. Each page shows the date of the data it uses, and that same date appears in the page's structured data.
How we check the data
- Each run compares new figures with the last run and stops if prices move by an unusual amount or a file is missing or malformed.
- We show medians across products with the same description, so one odd record does not set the price.
- We never invent, estimate, or round up a number to fill a gap. If we have no data, we say so.
What we do not do
- We do not give medical advice. Ask your prescriber or pharmacist.
- We do not use AI to write medical guidance. Label text is shortened from the FDA label and linked in full.
- We do not take payment to change a price or a ranking. Any future partner offer will be clearly labeled, as our advertising disclosure explains.
