We've got your back on the bill
A surprise bill is stressful. Take a breath. These simple steps help you check it, one line at a time. General information, not legal or financial advice.

Ask for an itemized bill
You can ask the hospital or provider for an itemized bill that lists each service and code. Compare it with what you remember receiving.
Compare the prices
Look up each code on SpreeHealth to see published cash prices and the Medicare rate in your area. Large gaps are worth asking about.
Ask about financial assistance
Nonprofit hospitals must have a written financial assistance policy under federal tax rules (IRS section 501(r)). Ask for it and for the application.
Know the No Surprises Act
If you are uninsured or paying yourself, you can ask for a Good Faith Estimate before scheduled care. If the bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you may be able to dispute it. See cms.gov/nosurprises.
